The new Indian Government will continue to play a crucial role in the G-20 group of nations, which has taken cudgels against the USA and EU in seeking an end to the trade-distorting agricultural subsidies denying the market opportunity to millions of farmers in the developing countries.

SYL canal: water not an issue, says SC
New Delhi, June 13
Even as the recent Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal verdict has rekindled the volatile water issue between Punjab and Haryana, the Supreme Court in its June 4 judgement has observed that the decree did not relate to the ‘’quantum of water’’ to be shared between the two states.

Haryana’s case on the SYL canal has received support from an unexpected quarter — the Army.
The Army has supported the construction of the canal so that the Sutlej water which flows across the border to Pakistan should be diverted within India.

Brahmos, the supersonic cruise missile which is part of an Indo-Russian joint venture, was today successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, 15 km from here, defence sources said.
