PDP worker among three killed in J&K

Srinagar, June 3
Three persons, including an activist of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and an Army havaldar, were killed in two separate incidents, while a major tragedy was averted with timely detection of an IED in the valley, official sources said today.

PDP activist Ghulam Mohiuddin Nigroo was shot dead by militants inside his house in Kullar village in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir late last night, sources said.

An unidentified militant and an Army havaldar were killed in a fierce gunbattle at Sheikhpora village in Dangiwacha area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir last night, sources added.

Sources said the police detected a powerful improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly planted by militants, at Hardpora-Nagam village in Chadoora tehsil of Badgam district today.

The IED was later defused by experts of the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Meanwhile, seven police personnel, including five CRPF jawans, were injured when terrorists hurled a grenade at them at Nagri village in Doda district today.

The policemen were patrolling the area in the morning when the incident took place.

The injured CRPF personnel have been identified as head constable Wilson Kirkotey, Mohiuddin Nizam Din, D.K. Pandey, Kulwant Singh, Aymi Rai. The other two injured in the incident were of the Jammu and Kashmir police, and SPO Inder Singh.

The injured were airlifted and admitted to the medical college, Jammu, for treatment.
