Jammu, May 31
Seven terrorists belonging to the Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) surrendered before senior Army and police officers at Reasi in Udhampur today. These terrorists were operating in the hills of Mahore in Udhampur district for the past seven years.

They surrendered alongwith arms and ammunition before Maj-Gen Rajeshwar Singh and DIG Satvir Gupta.

Six of the terrorists were from the HM and one from the JeM. They surrendered because of disenchantment with the “jihad” and lack of support from the local population.

After the surrender, these terrorists are entitled to various incentives, including a fixed deposit of Rs 1.50 lakh each and monthly stipend of Rs 2,000.

An Army spokesman said the surrender would make a dent in the terrorist organisation and retard their movement in the area.

Those who surrendered were Ghulam Nabi, group commander of the HM, Abdul Rashid, HM area commander. Others who surrendered with their sophisticated arms and ammunition are Mohammad Shabir, Mohammad Rafiq, Liaqat Ali and Noor Hussain.
