Chirac invites PM to Paris

New Delhi, May 26
Joining leaders from the US, Britain and other countries, French President Jacques Chirac has congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his assumption of office and invited him to visit Paris.

In a message to Prime Minister, Chirac said the recent elections demonstrated the extraordinary strength of the Indian democracy. They also reflected the deep attachment of the Indian people for secular values, which France particularly cherished.

He said the promotion of a balanced international order respecting human rights, strengthening the dialogue between cultures and supporting an equitable sustainable development were some of the common objectives.

“In these uncertain times for the international community, the need for France and India to combine efforts in this direction is more relevant than ever,” Chirac said.

Observing that the two countries have developed a steady partnership in political, economic, cultural and strategic fields, he assured Dr Singh of his resolve to work with the Indian leader towards strengthening it.
