Moga, April 24
Eight activists of the BKU (Ekta), three Congressmen and two policemen were injured when the BKU (Ekta) activists allegedly attacked the Congress workers while Mr Arvind Khanna, party nominee from the Sangrur parliamentary constituency, was addressing an election rally at Minia village in Moga district today.

The trouble started when the BKU (Ekta) activists, who have been showing black flags to Mr Khanna during his election rallies in various villages, started pelting stones at his rally in Minia village. The Congress workers, who came under attack, also made a counter attack on the BKU (Ekta) activists. This led to a clash between the two parties.

The policemen, who were deployed at the venue of the election rally, also allegedly came under attack from the BKU (Ekta) activists. Two policemen, who sustained injuries, were identified as ASI Swaran Singh and Constable Jaswinder Singh.

Mr M.S. Chinna, SSP, said activists of the BKU (Ekta) also used firearms and fired two rounds in the air.

The SSP said that a case under Sections 307, 323, 324, 332, 186, 353, 148 and 149 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act had been registered against the accused in the Badni Kalan police station. Police parties had been conducting raids on the suspected hideouts of the accused. Special nakas had also been set up to nab the accused

The security for Mr Khanna had been strengthened.

No office-bearer of the BKU (Ekta) could be contacted despite repeated efforts for their comments.
