Justice Singhvi excused himself on personal grounds
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, April 24
Staying away of Mr Justice G.S. Singhvi from the Full Bench headed by Chief Justice B.K. Roy in the selection of Deputy Superintendent of Police case yesterday had nothing to do with the recent leave episode, it is authoritatively learnt.

Justice G.S. Singhvi had requested the Chief Justice that he be excused from the bench. The request was made on personal grounds as Justice Singhvi did not want to be on any bench before which any case involving the Punjab's Principal Secretary, Home, Mr S.K. Sinha, was to come up for hearing.

According to information gathered by The Tribune, Justice G.S. Singhvi had been on the Full Bench with the Chief Justice and Mr Justice V.K. Bali on Wednesday which heard several cases. There was no question of Justice Singhvi excusing himself from a Full Bench headed by the Chief Justice. In fact Justice Singhvi also sat with the Chief Justice on Special Bench before which a few cases came up immediately after the leave episode.
