ABOHAR
RESCUED: Mr Vikrant Swami, an electrician of Nai Abadi, saved a couple from drowning on Tuesday. Sources said Mr Hanuman Dass was returning to Dharampura village along with his wife on a scooter when the scooter skidded on the bank of a sub-canal. Mr Swami, who was on his bicycle, used his shirt to pull them out of the water.

CRUSHED: Pankaj (7), son of a daily wage earner Sheeshpal, was crushed to death by an Army vehicle on the Hanumangarh road here on Monday. The boy was playing on the road with his sister when a four-wheeler hit Pankaj, killing him on the spot.

COMPETITIONS: The Homoeopathic Medical College team here has won the overall trophy in essay writing and debate competitions organised by the South Delhi Homoeopathic Association. There were 42 entries in the essay writing competition and eight colleges participated in the debate. The team consisted of BHMS students Himanshu Bhola, Ashwani Dhawan and Rinku Biswas.

KHANNA
VISIT: Mr David C. Mulford, Ambassador of the USA in India, will visit the Khanna grain market on Friday. Mr Raj Kumar Sood, an exporter of foodgrain, said here on Wednesday that Mr Mulford and his wife Jeannie Mulford would visit. Asia’s biggest grain market and see the procurement and packaging process of foodgrain.

MANDI AHMEDGARH
KILLED: Parsann Kaur (65), a resident of Chhanna village, died after being hit by a train at the Jandali railway bridge, near here, on Wednesday. Sources revealed that she had gone there for a morning walk, along some other women from the village.

PATIALA
CAMP: The Yog Avam Manav Sewa Sansthan organised a two-day camp on yoga, stress management and treatment with naturopathy here on Wednesday. As many as 500 persons attended the camp. Speaking on the occasion, the district president of the sansthan, Mr Anil Gupta, urged the people to join yoga classes regularly to keep a sound mind and healthy body.

BAISAKHI MELA: The Maharani Ladies Club organised a Baisakhi mela here on Wednesday. The president of the club Shubchint Kaur Sodhi, vice-president Harsh Modi and secretary Jaswinder Kaur Pal welcomed the guests and participants. Annual calendar of the club was also released by Ms Babli Arora and Ms Jaspal Singh on the occasion. A cultural programme was also organised.

BILASPUR
FREEDOM FIGHTER BEREAVED: Ms Champadevi, wife of freedom fighter and social worker Pandit Magniram, died here on Monday night. Her funeral on Tuesday was attended by persons from all walks of life.

MERGER HAILED: Mr Gian Chand Rattan, organising secretary of the Himachal Vikas Congress (HVC), hailed the merger of the HVC with the Congress.

HAMIRPUR
TWO DIE IN MISHAPS: Anil Kumar (27) was killed in an accident near Salasi village on Tuesday. He was on way to a medical shop when he was crushed by a truck. The police has registered a case and the truck driver has been taken into custody. In another accident, Bhago Devi of Kaloohar village was killed when her dupatta got trapped in a crusher on Tuesday morning. She had gone to the crusher for the threshing of wheat. Nadaun tehsildar visited the spot and gave a relief of Rs 5,000 to the family of the deceased. The family refused to file a case with the police.

HYPERSENSITIVE POLL BOOTHS: Deputy Commissioner Devesh Kumar said here on Tuesday that there were 38 hypersensitive polling stations, 55 sensitive and 414 ordinary polling stations in all five Assembly segments of the Hamirpur district, namely nadaun, Hamirpur, nadaunta, Bamsan and Mewas (reserve). The highest number of hypersensitive polling stations (11) were in Nadaun.

KANGRA
ACCIDENT: Noolu Ram of Jagli Baith village was killed on the spot when hit by a truck at Jagli Baith under the Baijnath police station on Monday evening, the police said here on Tuesday. The police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving against truck driver Bhram Ram and arrested him.
