SC rejects bail to Godhra case accused
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, March 17
The Supreme Court today rejected bail petition of Godhra train carnage case main accused Moulvi Hussaen Ibrahim Umarji, saying that no case was made out for his release from the jail at this stage. A Bench comprising Mr Justice S. Rajendra Babu, Mr Justice Arun Kumar and Mr Justice G. P. Mathur rejected his bail plea, while upholding the Gujarat High Court’s earlier order refusing to grant him bail.

The Gujarat Government had opposed his appeal against the high court order on the ground that he was the key accused in the case, which related to burning alive of 59 persons in a boggy of Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002, triggering communal clashes.
