Fatehabad, March 14
Seven members of a marriage party were killed when their jeep collided head on with a truck near Dariyapur village, 8 km from here, on the Fatehabad-Sirsa road this morning. The victims, all in their mid-20s, were returning after attending a marriage ceremony at Bhattu Sottar village. They were on the way to Chuli Bagrian village in this district.
According to eyewitnesses, the jeep coming towards Fatehabad rammed into the truck. The truck dragged the jeep for 50 yards.
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Mahtab Singh Sehrawat, and the SP, Mr Saurabh Singh, reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
The mutilated bodies, which were extricated from the jeep, were sent to the local general hospital for postmortem.
The victims were identified as the jeep driver Surinder of Naya Gaon village in Hisar district; Balwan Singh of Chuli Bagrian; and Naresh, Subhash, Rajinder, Mahesh and Bhal Singh, all related to each other and residents of Faifana village in Rajasthan.
While other vehicles, carrying the marriage party, took shorter route towards Ding-Mehuwala-Bhattu Kalan, the ill-fated jeep travelled via Fatehabad.
