HC orders DDA dose to hospitals flouting norms

The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi Development Authority and the Land and Development Office to take immediate action against hospitals violating their land allotment agreement which had a condition for free treatment to poor patients.

Charred remains of abducted child found
Meerut, March 3
A seven-year-old boy, who had been abducted from village Atora on February 28, was charred to death in a furnace. When the boy’s skeleton was found in a cane-crusher unit (kolhu) of one Irshad on late Tuesday evening, angry villagers attacked and torched his house.

BJP set to field all six sitting MPs in Capital
New Delhi, March 3
The Delhi Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to field all the six former Members of Parliament in the forthcoming polls. An indication to this effect was given by party sources today while constituting a 15-member election committee for the National Capital Territory of Delhi. All six of them have been included in it under the chairmanship of Delhi Pradesh BJP president Dr Harshvardhan.

A ‘Kavi Goshthi’ was organised as part of a Holi celebration among the under-privileged children by Sampurna, an NGO working among the weaker sections of the society. Poems and couplets were recited on the occasion, which added flavour to the colourful celebration.

Separate valuation for hospitals
New Delhi, March 3
The Municipal Commissioner, Mr Rakesh Mehta, has said that the Municipal Valuation Committee would make a provision for valuation of property owned by hospitals and institutions, and land for public purpose utilities. The committee will formulate separate guidelines for such property for collection of property tax.

NGO to observe three landmark Sikh events
New Delhi, March 3
The Servants of Humanity, an NGO working in Delhi, started the celebrations of three centenaries of the Sikh community coming in year 2004 - Nanakshahi 536. The celebrations for the three centenaries - Guru Angad Dev Ji’s 500 Parkash Purab, Guru Granth Sahib’s 400 Parkash Purab and 300 Martyrdom of Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, was started by the organisation with a Gurmat Samagam, held at Gurdwara Shahidan, Shastri Park.

New Delhi, March 3
“Bad women are the carriers of AIDS and so to avoid its spread we must get rid of them.” Shocking as it may sound this is the standard response of the adolescent community in four different slums of the Capital, where a study was conducted by the Gender Training Institute of the Centre for Social Research to look at AIDS from a gender perspective.

Two dowry deaths were registered by the police here. A woman was burnt to death by her in-laws when she was unable to meet their dowry demand of Rs.1.50 lakh. A report has been filed by the mother of the deceased with the Loni police.

The Special Investigation Team of the Crime Branch arrested a notorious criminal, identified as Bipin Sharma (31), resident of Jhilmil Colony, from the Anand Vihar area of East district. The sleuths apprehended him after receiving a secret information that the notorious criminal was staying in the Jhilmil area.

4 inter-state auto thieves nabbed
Ghaziabad, March 3
The Link Road police arrested four auto thieves and seized two cars from them during a routine checking. Based on their disclosures, the police seized seven more cars from different places. Moreover, two country-made revolvers, a large quantity of live cartridges and two knives were also seized from the two accused.

MCD gets court notice on renaming Rani Jhansi Road
New Delhi, March 3
The Delhi High Court today issued notice to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on a petition seeking to prohibit the municipal body from renaming Rani Jhansi Road in the heart of the Capital to Manohar Lal Khurana Road. A division bench comprising Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice B D Ahmed, issued notice to the MCD and its Standing Committee Chairman on the petition filed by a resident of Rani Jhansi Road.

Inter-state robbers, who would pose as cops, nabbed
New Delhi, March 3
The North-East district has claimed to have apprehended eight inter-state robbers and dacoits who used to gain entry in the targeted houses by posing themselves as policemen to commit crimes like robbery, kidnapping and rape.

Sadhu rapes woman pining for male child
Rewari, March 3
Purportedly driven by the pursuit of a male child, a woman of Zenabad village, about 25 km from here, recently fell into the clutches of sadhu Bhimgiri, practising occultism at Rewari and several other places in Haryana. The sadhu was apprehended by the CIA police of Rewari from its hideout in Hisar on Saturday.
