In yet another attempt to woo voters, the Punjab Government today announced an insurance scheme for school children. Done under the garb to ensure maximum enrolment and attendance in government schools, the government has decided to launch an insurance scheme to cover 30 lakh such students from Class I to XII.
A spokesman of the Punjab Government said that under this scheme the entire expenditure would be borne by the state government and it would extend risk cover to the students beyond the school timings also.
The spokesman further said that Rs. 50,000 would be paid in case of a death of a student in an accident. Similarly, Rs 50,000 would also be paid in case of the loss of both legs or arms or loss of vision in both eyes and in case of 100 per cent disability. An amount of Rs 25,000 would be paid in the case of loss of a leg or arm or an eye. Besides this, Rs. 5,000 would also be paid as reimbursement on the medical treatment in case of an accident.
