Nine young men, returning from a marriage feast, were killed in a road accident under Vijay Nagar police station area at 2 am last night on Bulandshahar–Ghaziabad highway. The lone surviving member of the group is admitted in the ICU at Ganesh hospital in a serious condition.

Illegal colonies: Centre seeks HC nod on norms

The Central Government has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking its approval of revised guidelines for regularising unauthorised colonies in the national Capital, which, among other things, extends the ‘cut-off’ date for such colonies from March 31, 1993 to March 31, 2002.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has awarded B plus grade to the Government College at Gohana town on the basis of the inspection by the peer team of the council last month. Mr Desh Deepak, principal of the college, told mediapersons at Gohana town, 35 km from here yesterday, that the officials of the peer team were satisfied with the functioning of the college after an inspection of the college, including meeting the lecturers, students and their parents.

Seven booked for dowry

The police have booked at least seven persons of a family of Ferojpur village in the district for demanding dowry during the wedding ceremony which was called off by the groom and his family a couple of days before the ceremony. The bride’s family then married off their daughter to another boy the same day.

The Union Bank of India launched its new initiatives, ‘Union Life Guard’ and ‘Union Surksha’, during a customers meet in the Capital. The ‘Union Lifeguard’ card is an initiative for emergency situation when the bank would directly pay its holder for any medical treatment in hospital and the bills thereof. The Union Bank has tied up arrangement with 10 leading hospitals in the national Capital.
