Patiala, February 21
The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has decided to exempt the recovery of electricity bills from the agriculture power consumers of the border areas of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and
Ferozepore districts whose land falls on the international border with Pakistan.
The land remained covered with mines, as a result of which no agriculture activities could be carried out in such areas. The exemption shall be available from the date of the levy of agriculture tariff to the date of removal of mines, which will be authenticated with the help of the Deputy Commissioner of the three border districts, an official release said here today.
JALALABAD: Mr R.K. Bains, Chief Engineer, (West Zone), PSEB, Bathinda, today visited this border belt to take stock of the urban pattern of 24-hour power supply drive, launched by the PSEB here. He was accompanied by Mr H.S. Brar, Superintending Engineer, Ferozepore.
According to an estimate, a sum of Rs 1.25 lakh is outstanding against the border belt farmers of Ferozepore district alone. The farmers of the border belt were opposing the recovery of power bills on the ground that as no agriculture activity could be carried out, and as no electricity was consumed during this period, they should not be made to pay bills for this period.
The BKU has, meanwhile, welcomed the decision of the PSEB.
