The police has arrested three Pakistan-based terrorists who had infiltrated into India from Pakistan. A large quantity of arms and ammunition has been seized from their possession.
The terrorists were arrested by a team of police officials of Poonch district when they had almost reached New Delhi.
The Director-General of Police, Mr Gopal Sharma, told mediapersons here today that the terrorists belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), outfit.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that they intended to carry out an attack on Indira Gandhi International Airport yesterday. A local guide, who was entrusted with the task of facilitating their movement New Delhi and recce of an area, however, escaped.
The plan for the attack was masterminded by Abu Salama, LeT commander, who had on January 2 organised the terrorist attack on the railway station here in which six
security personnel were killed. He also masterminded a “fidayeen attack” at Poonch on December 10.
The DGP said the conspiracy was hatched at Fazalabad village in the border town of Surankot where LeT commanders namely Abu Salama and Assudullah under the supervision of the divisional commander Abu Hanzulla prepared the terrorists to carry out the “fidayeen attack”.
The terrorists were produced before the mediapersons and identified as Assan Ullah, Mohammad Bashir and Rashid.
Three AK 56 rifles, 12 handgrenades, 12 AK magazines and 480 AK rounds were seized.
