Id celebrated with traditional fervour

Id was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety at Jama Masjid on Jail Road. Thousands of Muslims from all parts of the district thronged the venue of the religious congregation and participated in the namaz which was led by the Shahi Imam of the masjid, Habib-Ur-Rehman.

Bankers resent no holiday on Id-ul-Zuha
Ludhiana, February 2
Trade union leaders have strongly reacted to denial of holiday to bank employees on the occasion of Id-ul-Zuha even though it was a gazetted holiday for state and central government employees. The state government had not declared the holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, governing the bank holidays.

Mydoom virus hits computers in Ludhiana

Be careful when you open an attachment enclosed with an e-mail. It can be a new virus, making its way through the Internet at a rapid pace. Known as Mydoom or Novarg, the virus is infecting computers worldwide and has not even spared residents of Ludhiana.

Discrepancies in PAN card
Ludhiana, February 2
After receiving a PAN card from the Income Tax PAN Services unit, Ms Anjana Kumari, a resident of Narinder Nagar, here was shocked to see that the card issued in her name actually bore a photograph of some other woman.

Wife hires killers for husband
Ludhiana, February 2
In a shocking case, a woman allegedly hired contract killers to pour acid on her estranged husband. The Kochar Market police today claimed that they have arrested two alleged contract killers Haria and Sukhminder Singh on the charge of pouring acid on Mr Amarjit Singha, a senior manager with Vardhman Mills, here.

The Akali Dal (Amritsar) has congratulated European Sikhs for their solidarity by showing up in large numbers in Paris in support of retaining the right to wear turban in schools and educational institutions in France. The party has also appealed to the SGPC to take up the issue in right earnest.

Sheikh Baba Farid, a noted Sufi Punjabi poet is widely respected. He was born in 1173 A.D. at Kathwal village (Multan) and died in 1266 A.D. at Ajodhan village (Pak Pattan). His 112 shlokas and four shabads have been included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Rajesh Singh, a Bihari migrant living in Ram Nagar Colony of Bhammian village, was arrested yesterday by the Civil Lines police and booked under Sections 25, 54 and 590 of the Arms Act.

Man held for hiring killers
Khanna, February 2
The police claimed to have busted a gang of supari (hired) killers and solved a three-year-old murder case with the arrest of Jaswinder Singh. The killers were hired by him to kill her wife’s paramour.

Man murdered
Ludhiana, February 2
An unidentified man was found murdered along the Ferozepore rail line opposite the fish market, near Jagraon bridge, this morning. A blood-laced sickle, suspected to be used in hacking the man to death, was found near the body.

The display board, which would be visible during the day as well as at the night, would provide regular information like real time, ambient temperature, relative humidity, population count of the country, along with different messages of public interest in Hindi, English and Punjabi for the benefit of public.
