World Punjabi conference from January 23

New Delhi, January 13
A three-day annual conference of the World Punjabi Organisation (WPO) will get under way in Dubai from January 23.

Former Prime Minister I.K Gujral will be the chief guest at the conference which will be inaugurated by the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Chairman Tarlochan Singh. Union Chemical and Fertilisers Minister S.S Dhindsa will preside over the conference.

WPO president Vikramjit Singh Sahney said today that a large number of delegates from the USA, the UK and other European countries had confirmed their participation.

A 150-member delegation from India will include film star Govinda, Member of Parliament Raj Babbar, former Indian cricket captain Bishan Singh Bedi, comedian and satirist Jaspal Singh Bhatti and Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar S.P Singh.

Mr Sahney said the conference would discuss ways and means of promoting Punjabi culture among the people who had gone to the Gulf countries for business and employment.
