SC’s no to cancel doctors’ bail in kidney racket
Our Legal  Correspondent

New Delhi, January 9
The Supreme Court has rejected the Punjab Government’s plea for cancellation of the bail of two senior doctors from the state, accused of being involved in a kidney racket.

A Bench comprising Mr Justice P.V. Reddi and Mr Justice B.P. Singh rejected the Punjab Government’s petition on the ground that the Punjab and Haryana High Court, while granting bail to Dr O.P. Mahajan and Dr Jagdish Gargi, had laid down adequate conditions on both of them by asking them to join investigation on every Wednesday.

The state government had challenged high court’s April 10, 2003, decision and sought cancellation of doctors’ bail. The court dismissed the appeal at the notice stage yesterday. It said a chargesheet against the doctors had already been filed and prosecution’s interest were fully protected in the bail order.
