Safeguards sought to stop its misuse

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has cleared the Delhi State Bill 2003 but sought that the Union Government spell out the purpose of giving overriding powers to the President of India to issue directions to the State of Delhi.

‘Sadhu’ among 3 behind mystery murder

The mystery surrounding the body discovered from the jungle of village Bhoopkhedi, Loni, two month ago has been solved. It is now confirmed that the murder was committed by two youth, along with a ‘sadhu’. It is learnt that the police have nabbed the two youths accused, while the ‘sadhu’ was still at large.

To commemorate the victory of the division over Jessore garrison in East Pakistan (now in Bangladesh), Pine Infantry division celebrated its Victory Day on December 6. General Officer Commanding of the 9 Infantry Division, Major-General R. K. Singh, VSM, together with other senior serving and retired officials of the division laid wreaths and paid floral tributes to all the martyrs of the Pine Division in a glittering ceremony held at the Pine War Memorial.

Truck overturns, two injured

A truck driver and helper, identified as Jagat Singh and Satbir respectively, were injured when their truck carrying ‘rori’ fell into a canal minor near Kharkhauda town, about 20 km from here yesterday.

Highway dacoits arrested, goods worth Rs 17 lakh seized 
New Delhi, December 7
Three inter-state dacoits involved in targeting the loaded trucks on highways were arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. Goods worth Rs 17 lakh was seized from the dacoits, who had murdered 17 persons and looted nine trucks. As many as 400 bags, each weighing 25 kilograms of plastic granules of GAIL India Limited, were recovered from the truck.

Scooterist robbed of Rs 25,000 
Sonepat, December 7
An unidentified youth is reported to have taken away Rs 25,000 from a scooter while the scooterist was purchasing petrol at a petrol pump here late in the evening. According to a report, some people chased the youth when the victim raised an alarm. However, they failed to apprehend the culprit.

A city court granted bail to a Central Revenue Control Laboratory (CRCL) employee arrested on charges of fudging the test report of a narcotic analysis and forging the signature of his senior officer because of inadequate probe by the police.

Life imprisonment for rape of minor
Sonepat, December 7
The District and Sessions Judge of Sonepat, Mr B. L. Singhal convicted Inder Singh of Bamdauli village in Jhajjar district under Section 376 IPC and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5000 for raping a three-year-old girl in this city on June 11 last year.

ITF Asian Junior Tennis in Delhi
New Delhi, December 7
The ITF Asian Junior Tennis Tournament for boys and girls under-18 will be held at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association courts from December 8 to 13. The tournament will feature both singles and doubles events. The singles main draw will consist of 24 direct acceptances, four qualifiers and four wild card entries to make up the qualifying draw of 32. The tournament has a status of ITF Grade B2 event.

Salwan Boys School, Delhi defeated Sirajgonj Multilateral High School, Bangladesh by 57 runs and entered the quarter-final of the DPS World Cup Invitational Cricket for Schools at the Guru Gobind Singh College ground.

Sports Authority of India (SAI) Central Region emerged winners, both in the girls and boys section, in the SAI Inter-Regional Wrestling Tournament held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Around 139 wrestlers from all the SAI regional centres participated in the competition.

Rajat Kumar bowls Century to victory

A devastating bowling spell of 4 for 46 by Rajat Kumar helped Century Club defeat Tilak Nagar Colts by 21 runs in an A-I Division match of the DDCA League at the RSC ground.
