Domoria Bridge traffic chaos regulated
Ludhiana, December 4
To improve the flow of traffic in the problematic areas of the city and to bring about a qualitative change in its regulation, the local traffic police has chalked out a comprehensive action plan. The plan would envisage an optimum use of manpower at strategic points during the peak hours. The long-term measures would be finalised and appropriate recommendations made to the authorities concerned.

Badal trying to win sympathy: Cong

It is unfair on the part of the SAD to equate party chief Parkash Singh Badal with Sewa Singh Thekriwala as the latter fought against the princely rule in the country while the former plundered the state during his reign and was now trying to win the sympathy of the people by juxtaposing crisis in his family as one facing the Panth.

Teachers' protest in Patiala today

The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) has given a call to teachers of non-government colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh to reach Patiala on December 5 where a protest is being held in favour of their long- pending demands. The top leadership of the union shall court arrest on this day outside the residence of the Punjab Chief Minister.

Legal cell of PPCC hails action against Badal
Ludhiana, December 4
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), legal cell, has hailed the action initiated by the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, against the former Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, and his family members to expose their ill-gotten wealth during the tenure of SAD-BJP government in Punjab.

Anti-pollution drive launched
Mandi Gobindgarh,  December 4
“Mandi Gobindgarh is the most polluted town in the state and we are striving to improve the environment by plantation and through awareness of the people to keep the town clean and free of pollution”, said Gobindgarh council chief, Mr Joginder Pal Singla. He was addressing students, teachers and people of the town after planting a sapling in the local rose garden on Wednesday.

PAU staff mourn death of Dass
Ludhiana, December 4
Expressing shock over the demise of Punjabi poet, Dr Parmeshwari Dass ‘Dass’, the staff of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) held a condolence meeting here today. Dr Kirpal Singh Aulakh, Vice-Chancellor, said the poet, who wrote poems related to scientific research, was no more. He said his poems pertaining to agricultural development were incorporated in the monthly journal ‘Changi kheti’ being brought out by the university.

Scholars throw light on freedom struggle

A largely attended Seminar on “Gatha Sutantarta Sangram Di”, written by Sant Dalip Singh Namdhari, was held in the Seminar Hall of Panjabi Bhavan. Scholars and historians from all over Punjab participated in it. Three papers by Dr Kulwinder Kaur, Dr Swaranjit Kaur Grewal and Dr S.N. Sewak were read.

Gita Jayanti  celebrated

The Brahman Samaj Sabha organised Shrimad Bhagwad Gita Samaroh here today. The function was presided over by Mr Suresh Vatasyan, an erudite scholar and Vice Chancellor, Adult Education Organisation, Delhi. The function was organised at Sidh Baba Balaknath Temple, Ghumar Mandi.

Murder case registered
Ludhiana, December 4
The Civil Lines police has registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC in the death of Mr Vipan Jindal who was allegedly poisoned on August 29, 2000 , after an inquiry was conducted by ADGP, Crime, Chandigarh.

A meeting of the convener of Primary/Elementary Sikhia Bachao Front, Punjab, comprising eight unions of government primary teachers was held at Government Senior Secondary School (Boys) Jawahar Nagar, on Sunday, in which Sarv Shri Piara Singh Dhillon, Pritpal Singh, Karan Raj Singh Gill, Kashmir Singh Khunda, Manjit Singh Virk, Mohinder Singh Heer, Baldev Krishan Moudgill, Manjit Singh Roopra, Karam Singh Sahava, Ramanjit Singh Sandhu, etc were present.

PAU seeks payment of outstanding dues

The Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Dr K.S. Aulakh, has pressed upon the Punjab Government to pay the arrears worth Rs 21.70 crore to PAU at the earliest to meet the financial needs.

Athletic meet begins today
Ludhiana, December 4
Nearly 400 medals will be at stake during the athletics meet of Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, slated to be held from December 5 to 7. Sister Helima, the Principal of the school, said the participants would be divided into Green, Red, Blue and Yellow houses and categorised under three age groups — sub junior (u-12 years), junior (u-15 years) and senior (above 15 years) for boys as well as girls.
