Chandigarh, November 19
Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, son of the former Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal said today that he had information that the Vigilance Bureau (VB) had valued the worth of the family assets, which the latter describes unaccounted assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, to the tune of Rs 79 crore.

He said these figures were “fabricated” and had been managed from various agencies to justify the filing of challan in court against the Badal family. Speaking on the phone from Delhi, Mr Sukhbir, who appeared to have vital information regard the challan to be filed against his family members said the VB had come out with a figure of Rs 4.26 crore as difference in the income tax returns of his father, mother and his own. “The bureau did not take notice of the loan worth Rs 1.50 crore taken by me from the Punjab Bank and Sind Bank.”

Likewise, loan worth Rs 75 taken by my mother and given to me and agriculture income of our family worth Rs 1.50 crore had been ignored while tabulating the difference in figures. “Agriculture income of my father has only been shown to the tune of Rs 60 lakh when it is about 1.50 crore”, he said. “We have the evidence to prove what I say”, he added.

In case of Orbit resorts, disproportionate assets worth Rs 57 crore had been shown as unaccounted assets. “But the truth is that we have filed an audited balance-sheet declaring assets worth Rs 85 crore till date. It was part of the income tax returns as well as appraisal reports submitted to banks for raising loans on this project”, he explained. He said the first government team had assessed the value of the resort to the tune of Rs 95 crore. Later another team assessed it to the tune of Rs 108 crore.

The VB, he said, had only accepted documents regarding investment of Rs 51crore in this project while other documents justifying the investment of Rs 85 crore were ignored.

Loans worth Rs 70 lakh taken from N.S. Dhillon, popularly called Nims Dhillon and a close relation of Badals, had also been shown among disproportionate assets. Mr Sukbir said these loans were taken through cheques. Loan taken worth Rs 25 lakh from commission agent Tej Bhan had been included in unaccounted assets.

Besides, according to Mr Sukhbir, loan worth Rs 30 lakh taken from Goodluck Finance Company, a loan amount of Rs 12.50 lakh from Ashish Kapur, an investment by K.S. Sidhu to the tune of Rs 7.13 crore, cash paid to purchase land worth Rs 4.58 lakh for Continental Hatcheries and the money paid as settlement of continental hatcheries worth Rs 29.50 lakh had been included in unaccounted assets. Property worth Rs 4.77 crore, which according to the VB was benami, owned by Mr Harbans Lal, a petrol station contractor, had also been shown in the unaccounted assets of the Badals, Mr Sukhbir said.

Other properties included in the unaccounted assets were a flat worth Rs 21 lakh in Delhi, the amount spent on an SCO in Sector-9 to the tune of Rs 54 lakh, expenditure to the tune of Rs 1.15 crore on a house and money spent on Balasar Farms to the tune of Rs 2.34 crore.
