TDP for early poll

Hyderabad, November 13
Ending the month-long suspense regarding early polls, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu tonight declared that his party would seek a fresh mandate after dissolving the Assembly for a ‘final solution’ to the vexed Naxalite problem in the state.

The TDP politburo adopted a resolution to this effect, which was ratified by the ‘Rashtra Sarva Prathinidhi Sabha’ amidst applause by the 7,000-odd delegates at the makeshift Exhibition Grounds here.

With the completion of the political process, the ruling TDP has empowered the government to dissolve the Assembly. The state Cabinet is likely to meet on November 15 to recommend for the dissolution of the 11th Legislative Assembly, almost nine months ahead of schedule.

The Congress was untrustworthy, ready to mortgage the self-respect of Telugus and indulging in double-talk, while the Telangana Rashtra Samithi ignored the Telangana issue, he alleged.

Mr Naidu, who was the main speaker, said the extremists felt threatened by the development programmes undertaken by his government over the last eight years. ‘‘However, the people have to decide,’’ he said in a bid to mobilise support for the coming polls, leveraging on the perceived sympathy wave after his ‘rebirth’ following the assassination bid. — UNI
