Locomotive breaks wall, enters residential area

Board, admn differ on pollution levels

The district administration and the Punjab Pollution Control Board have different equipments to measure the concentration of pollutants in the city if the data provided by both of them about the pollution level is any indication.

No dissidence in party, claims Hanspal
Ludhiana, November 9
State Congress President H.S. Hanspal today said there was no dissidence in the party and its legislative wing and said rumours in this regard were the outcome of some vested interests. He was talking to mediapersons here after participating in a function organised by the Namdhari sect to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev and Sat Guru Jagjeet Singh.

MC behind spread of dengue, says Shiv Sena

Activists of the Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) today staged a demonstration against the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. They alleged that the MC had failed to maintain cleanliness in the city. This, they said, had led to the spread of a deadly disease like dengue.

Lecture on dengue today

Mobike recovered from murder suspects
Sahnewal, November 9
The motor cycle that was stolen from a fair at Pawa Khagat village on September 8 was recovered today by a Sahnewal policy party from the custody of three youths hailing from Sahnewal town. The youths have also been accused of murdering their companion near Garkhal village, 19 km from Kasauli, on October 7.

Rally against female foeticide held
Ludhiana, November 9
Activists of the District Youth Congress, led by its secretary Mr Manoj Rawal, today took out a rally on two-wheelers in protest against female foeticide. Mr Rawal said the purpose of the rally was to create awareness among the general public against female foeticide.

Regularisation of daily-wage  workers sought
Ludhiana, November 9
A delegation of the Punjab State Civil Supplies Class IV Employees Congress met the Punsup Chairperson, Mrs Aruna Chaudhry, MLA, under the leadership of the INTUC president, Mr Balwant Rai Kapoor, who is also the chairman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (Labour and Employment Cell, and sought the regularisation of more than 200 daily-wage workers employed in Punsup for the past 20 years.

Local gurdwaras were illuminated beautifully and lights brought out the beauty of the gurdwaras yesterday. Men, women and children thronged gurdwaras to light candles. A majority of the people lit up their houses with Chinese lights they had stored after Divali.

serious debate is on with regard to the choice of time for making peace proposals to Pakistan. Past experience apart, the wise step is timely. Such a step is for the collective good promising peace and amity. People to people contact is the basic need, an urge. Animosity is never real, therefore, never permanent. Nations of the West may have burnt any number of boats any number of times. We have learnt the lessons of coexistence and cooperation. Surely, India and Pakistan can co-exist peacefully as acceptable neighbours.

Bairagis to campaign against social evils

The local Panjab University Law College, which is at present being run from the Extension Library of the university, appears to be hogging the limelight once again. This time also the debate is about who was the main person behind the setting up of this college.

PAU campus abuzz with poll activity
Ludhiana, November 9
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) campus is buzzing with election activity as two rival factions of the non-teaching staff prepared for the PAU Employees’ Union elections scheduled to be held on November 14. The factions are led by Mr D.P. Maur, president of the union, and Mr Ashok Mahindru.

Career option fest ends
Ludhiana, November 9
A three-day mega education and career festival organised by the All-India Management Association-Centre for Management Services, New Delhi, on the premises of the local Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women concluded here today.
Mr Harnam Dass Johar, Minister of Punjab for Higher Education, presided over the valedictory function. The aim of the festival is to spread awareness regarding career avenues.

1,768 cases settled at lok adalat
Ludhiana, November 9
A seminar was organised to mark the Legal Services Day, by the District Legal Services Authority under the supervision of its Chairman, Mr Baldev Singh (District and Sessions Judge), here today. The importance of lok adalats and the free legal aid concept was highlighted on the occasion. Fifteen Benches disposed of as 1768 cases and compensation amounting to over Rs 34 lakh was disbursed.

Training Sikhs for modelling
Ludhiana, November 9
It was a refusal for him due to his turban that forced him to bounce back and take the road less travelled. He was selected for modelling a product but was not allowed to walk the ramp because he did not want to remove his turban. Since the day this turbaned Sikh, Gurmeet Singh Gill did not look back. He launched a model-grooming company exclusively for Sikhs.

The three-day 13th international live operative workshop and urology conference organised by the North Zone Chapter of the Urological Society of India concluded here today. As many as 400 delegates from all over the world took part in the conference and discussed new techniques and advancements in the field of urology and transplants.

The highlight of the healthy baby show organised here today by the Indian Association of Paediatrics at the Lions Bhavan was a 13-day-old baby, Ashleen Kaur, who was one of the participants in the age group 0 to 1 year. A large number of children had come to take part. Doctors checked the weight and history of the babies.

The annual sports meet was organised at GMT Senior Secondary Public School here today. The chief guest, Dr K.S.
