Army officer, 6 militants killed in valley

Srinagar, October 19
Two militants and an Army officer were killed in a gunbattle in the frontier district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir early today, defence sources said here.

The encounter broke out at K.K. Gali, 10 km north-west of Kupwara, in the wee hours when militants opened fire on an Army patrol, they said.

Two militants, yet to be identified, and a Lieutenant were killed in the encounter, the sources added.

Meanwhile, a soldier was killed and a Special Police Officer injured when militants ambushed a security patrol in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir today, police said.

Militants ambushed the security patrol at Arpanchala Khari near Banihal, 125 kms from here, killing the jawan and injuring the SPO, they said.

The police said militants also shot at and critically injured a woman SPO, Gowhara, in her house in Anantnag district of south Kashmir last night.

JAMMU: Two Pakistani militants were shot dead by Army troops in Kishtwar hills of Doda district while one civilian was killed and his daughter injured in mistaken fire by the security forces in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said here today.

Army troops launched a seek-and-destroy operation in Kishtwar hills in Doda last evening to track down a group of militants, the sources said.

In the gunbattle that broke between militants and troops and continued till this morning, two Pakistani militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) were killed, they said.

Two ultras of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HUM) outfit were killed in a gunbattle with the security forces at Serhani Keshwan in Doda district last night, the spokesman said. — PTI, UNI
