Una, October 4
Two persons have died and two sustained grievous injuries when a pile of earth fell on labourers who were digging a plinth in Bhadsali village, 10 km from here today.

According to information, the labourers, all residents of Bhadsali, were deployed by the village panchayat for digging the plinth of a classroom to be constructed at the primary school complex. Four labourers were working in the 3-foot-deep plinth at the base of a nearly 10-foot-high hillock, when a large chunk of earth caved in, burying all of them.

Though rescue operations started immediately, only two workers could be rescued while the other two died under the debris.

The injured have been admitted to the Zonal Hospital here.

The SDM, Mr Sanjay Sharma, said Rs 5,000 each had been given to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 2,500 to the injured. — UNI
