15 Pak intruders killed in encounter
Tribune News Service

Srinagar, September 29
At least 15 armed infiltrators have been killed during a week-long encounter when the Army foiled a major infiltration bid in the Gurez sector of Baramula district. This is one of the major infiltration bids along the LoC this month, ahead of the coming winter, when high peak mountains remain covered under deep snow, making infiltration impossible.

A police spokesman said here that the week-long encounter leading to the death of 15 militants started at Masjid Nar, Churgah, in the Gurez sector on Tuesday last. The seizures made from the spot included 11 AK rifles, three UBGLs, 12 hand grenades and two wireless sets.

Elsewhere in the valley one militant was killed while major tragedies were averted with the detection of two IEDs in Srinagar and Budgam districts. Two hand grenades were seized from a bus and the driver and conductor were taken into custody by the police at Nowgam by pass here yesterday.

One militant of the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, Abdul Rahman, was killed in an encounter with security forces at Sultanpora in Baramula district yesterday.

PTI adds: The General Officer Commanding, 28 Infantry Division, Major-General J.K. Mohanty told reporters in Gurez that the militants were killed at Gurez-Tilel in Baramula district over a period of six days after Ladakh Scouts observed a suspicious movement in the Baraub area on September 21.
