Tripathi’s wife offers to surrender in court

Lucknow, September 25
Madhumani Tripathi, wife of controversial Samajwadi Party legislator Amarmani Tripathi allegedly involved in the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case, has moved the Special CBI court for surrender.

Vijay Vikram, counsel for Mr Tripathi, told reporters here today that Madhumani had moved an anticipatory application to surrender before the special CBI court.

The Judge, Mr R.M. Yadav, has asked the CBI to submit a detailed report in this regard by September 30. The next hearing in the case will take place on that day.

The CBI which is probing the case has already quizzed Madhumani twice.

After the arrest of Amarmani Tripathi, CBI sleuths had given indications that more arrests were likely in this case. “Some members of Tripathi’s family could be arrested soon,” a CBI source told The Tribune. — OC

CBI may use lie-detector test on Tripathi

The interrogation of former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi, arrested in connection with poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case, continued here today. The CBI could go for lie-detector test if the accused tries to evade crucial questions.

“If we find him not responding to the crucial questions or trying to misguide us, we will carry out the lie-detector test,” CBI sources said here. Tripathi, who deserted the Bahujan Samaj Party and joined the Samajwadi Party ahead of the confidence vote of Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, was brought here from Lucknow yesterday.

He has been remanded in CBI custody by a Lucknow court till September 30. About the possibility of Tripathi’s wife Madhumani’s arrest, the sources said it would depend on the disclosures made by the former minister.
