A Public Works Department worker was killed on the spot when a boulder hit him at Sanaogi village, near Kumarsen in Shimla district, as heavy rains pounded Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and parts of north-west region over the past 24 hours.

People sweated under torrid humid conditions, with relative maximum and minimum humidity stayed 99 and 66 per cent, respectively.

A Shimla report said PWD worker Khem Dass was crushed to death by a boulder while returning home last night. With this the death toll in rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh has risen to 49, including 30 killed in the cloudburst in Kulu district, since the onset of the south-west monsoon on June 27.

Jammu reported 102 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours, reports here said, while Srinagar reported 38.4 mm rainfall. Bhoond, Basohli and Patti in Jammu region reported 26.4 mm, 3.4 mm and 20.2 mm rainfall, respectively.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas, which was lashed by heavy downpour, received a total of 44.8 mm rainfall. The day temperature hovered around 34°C, one degree above normal.

Kalka in Haryana received 35 mm more rainfall. Narnaul in southern Haryana reported 7 mm while Panchkula near received here 5 mm of rainfall.

Ludhiana in Punjab reported 4.6 mm rainfall while Nangal dam area reported 8.4mm of rainfall.

The National Capital Region of Delhi reported 4.5 mm of rain while its Palam area had 3.8 mm rainfall.

Private airlines flight to Kulu, via Shimla, failed to land here due to bad weather and flew back to New Delhi.

The Hindustan-Tibet road continued to be blocked for the fifth day on Tuesday due to landslide at Bhawanagar, near Jhakri.

Tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri and Narkanda were lashed by intermittent rain on Tuesday. Shimla recorded 9.1 mm rain till this morning and Sundernagar 8.4 mm.

Moderate rain was reported from the districts of Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan, Mandi and Shimla while Chamba had heavy downpour.

Sources said two houses were completely damaged and 24 others partially during torrential rains at Chailly village in Shimla district on Monday. Kharif crop was washed away by gushing rain waters. However, nearly 100 persons of the village escaped unhurt. — UNI

Rainfall: Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in east Rajasthan, at many places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, west Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal and at a few places in the rest of the region. 

The chief amounts of rainfall in mm are: 

Haryana: Chandigarh 5 and Naraingarh 1, Himachal Pradesh: Paonta 5, Pandoh and Solan 4 each, Ghamroor, Jhandutta, Kahu and Nahan 3 each, Kasol and Khairi 2 each and Bhuntar, Bhanjar, Kangra and Shimla 1 each, Jammu and Kashmir: Jammu 10, Srinagar 4, Bhoond 3 and Patti 2, Punjab: Malakpur 4, Nakodar 2 and Garhshankar, Nangal, Patti and Samrala 1 each, east Rajasthan: Kotra 12, Ganeshpur 7, Arnod and Kherwara 6 each, Dungarpur and Vejjan 5 each, Galiakot, Ghatol, Gogunda and Udaipur 4 each, Aspur, Bisalpur, Badgaon, Dhambola, Kanba, Partapgarh, Sabla and Vallabhnagar 3 each, Ajmer, Bassi, Badi Sadri, Ghadola Talab and Nimbakhera 2 each and Banswara, Chittorgarh and Kota Airport 1 each, West Rajasthan: Barmer 12, Jalore 4 and Jodhpur 2, East Uttar Pradesh: Ankinghat 8, Gorakhpur 6, Birdghat 5, Dalmau 4, Balrampur 3, Basti and Mirzapur 2 each and Allahabad, Ballia, Chandradeepghat, Kakrahi and Mukhlispur 1 each, West Uttar Pradesh: Jhansi 1 and Uttaranchal: Dehra Dun 3, Haripur 2 and Banbasa, Joshimath, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi 1 each.

Forecast valid until the morning of July 31: Rain or thundershowers will occur at many places over the entire region.

Heavy rainfall warning: Scattered heavy rain with isolated very heavy rain are likely in Rajasthan during the next 24 hours. Isolated heavy rain is likely in the rest of the region during the same period.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of July 31: Mainly cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers, one or two may be heavy in some areas.

Farmers weather bulletin for Delhi forecast valid until the morning of July 31: Moderate to heavy rain will occur at many places.

Outlook for the subsequent two days: No large change.
