Dog sentenced to death!

Purnea (Bihar), July 25
Every dog has his day. But Chhotu awaits his doomsday!

The people of a locality bayed for his blood, claiming that Chhotu had bitten 50 of their fellow human beings and the SDO, Mr Jitendra Prasad, pronounced the death sentence on him on July 15.

“The dog is in the habit of biting people. He will be executed by the Municipal authorities and the police,” said his one-line order.

While the authorities are yet to receive the order for execution, Chhotu’s fiercely protective owner Janaki Devi, in her 80s, thunders “They will have to first kill me before laying hands on Chhotu”.

She avers that Chhotu does not bite for the sake of biting but to keep those at bay who want to usurp her property.

The SDO justifies his order under Section 349 of the Municipal Act which empowers the local body to put to death a mad dog.

Janaki, however, hotly contests that Chhotu is mad. Does Chhotu have a say? — PTI
