He offered condolences to the bereaved family members of Mr Sheikh, popularly known as “Mehdi Hassan” of Kashmir.

It was an emotional scene with Sheikh’s children and other family members and friends wailing. They demanded an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death of Sheikh.

Mufti Sayeed said that he had already taken up the matter with his Punjab counterpart Amarinder Singh to ascertain the truth behind the death of Sheikh.

Earlier, Director, Radio Kashmir, Srinagar, Rafiq Masoodi, apprised the Chief Minister about the feelings of Sheikh’s colleagues over his tragic death. Despite the government’s claims that the Special Operation Group (SOG) had been disbanded, personnel associated with the force were still operating in the valley, Mr Untoo said.
