Advani interfering, Capt tells court
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 16
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, in his submission before the Delhi High Court, today accused Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani of interfering in the probe into corruption cases against former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and claimed that his government’s crusade against corruption was not motivated with a “political vendetta”.

Responding to a notice issued by a Bench comprising Ms Justice Usha Mehra and Mr Justice Pradeep Nandrajog on a petition by international food chain company Wimpy and its officials, arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with a corruption case against Mr Badal’s former OSD Hardeep Singh, Capt Amarinder Singh in his affidavit said any statement by Mr Advani in favour of Mr Badal was “unfortunate” and would “prejudice” the investigation.

The Chief Minister, in the affidavit filed through his counsel D.K. Sharma, contended that such statements by Mr Advani, who holds the portfolio of Home Affairs, would “affect the morale” of the officials of the probe agencies. He also alleged that after his statement, the Delhi Police had developed an attitude of non-cooperation.

The court, however, adjourned hearing in the matter till August 4 because the affidavit had not come on record before the Bench.
