VHP to go ahead with temple construction
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, July 11
The Sangh Parivar top brass and some Hindu leaders today suggested that the construction of the Ram temple on the disputed site should be started from an “auspicious date”.

At the conclusion of a meeting of the Ram Mandir Nirman Andolan Samiti, the VHP leaders decided that it should not wait for a court order or a legislation and should start the construction without expecting a green signal from the government.

“Some leaders suggested at the meeting that the construction of the temple should be started on an auspicious day without waiting for signal from the government,” informed sources said.

The VHP leaders argued that since the disputed structure was not demolished by an order of the court or by implementing a parliamentary decision, why should they wait for a court verdict or a legislation to start the construction.

RSS chief K. Sudarshan, who also attended the meeting convened five days after the AIMPLB rejected Kanchi seer’s formula on Ayodhya, reportedly urged the VHP leaders not to press for the resignation of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The meeting of the high-powered committee of the Ram Mandir Nirman Andolan Samiti, headed by Mahant Avaidyanath, was attended by VHP president Vishnu Hari Dalmiya, working president Ashok Singhal, vice-president Giriraj Kishore, Bajrang Dal national coordinator Prakash Sharma and 45 prominent saints including Swamy Paramanand and Shankaracharya Vasude-vanand Saraswati.
