A car bearing the registration number HR-26G-2561 burst into flames due to a suspected short circuit near Hallo Majra on the route of Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishan Advani minutes after the cavalcade of the VIP passed from the Technical Airport to the Punjab Raj Bhavan.

The new universal taxation system of Value-Added Tax will help to unite all states under one pattern of tax system. However, there was a need for a mass campaign on the part of the Union Government and other related organisations to educate the industrialists and traders to convince them about the long-term benefits of VAT.

Now cheaper fuel for car — autogas
Chandigarh, July 11
Car owners in the city can now bid goodbye to the expensive petrol. Indian Oil today launched “autogas” from an outlet in Sector 34. Autogas is liquefied petroleum, the same as used in homes for cooking purposes. It will cost about Rs 18.11 per litre.

Satinder remanded in police custody

A clerk with the UT Labour Department, Satinder Singh, alias Babu, who was yesterday arrested by the CBI in an alleged corruption case involving two judicial officers was today remanded in police custody by the UT Duty Magistrate this evening.

Gupta granted bail
Chandigarh, July 11
Following the CBI’s failure to file a challan against suspended District and Sessions Judge R.M Gupta in a stipulated period of 60 days he was today granted bail by a local court in a corruption case registered against him. He remained in custody for two months.
