New Delhi, July 10
Mr Aziz Ahmed Khan today officially became Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India when he presented his credentials to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan here. Along with Mr Khan, the ambassadors of Eritrea and Croatia, Mr Gabriel Fassil and Mr Dino Debeljuh respectively, also presented their credentials. Later, talking to mediapersons Mr Khan expressed satisfaction at the finalisation of dates for the deferred SAARC Summit, saying “this augurs well for the entire South Asian subcontinent”.

On questions about Pakistan insisting on guarantees from India for restoring overflight facilities, he said such guarantees “will ensure that a similar situation does not arise in future.” He observed that airlinks and overflights were two separate issues and should not be linked. He stressed the need for resolving the issue as airlines of both countries had suffered huge financial losses following the snapping of airlinks.
