COMMUNITY

One for the road: The MP from South Delhi, Mr Vijay Kumar Malhotra, and others courted arrest on day two of the “jail bharo andolan” launched by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The BJP is protesting against the “rampant corruption and anti-poor policies” of the Government of NCT of Delhi.

Mr Malhotra told protesters that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit leading a delegation to Rashtrapati Bhavan to seek more administrative powers was a “gimmick … to cover up the Indian National Congress (INC’s) failures on all fronts.”

The Chief Minister, Mr Malhotra told mediapersons, had not fulfilled even one promise that was made in her party’s manifesto in 1998. “The INC had 45 years to put in place a suitable administration in Delhi …. Why is she crying for powers now ?” he wondered.

Ms Dikshit, he said, kept mum all these four odd years and did not raise the demand for making the NCT of Delhi a State. “If she is crying for powers now, she is doing it with an eye on the Assembly elections,” he said. Nothing, he added, had been done to root out corruption.
