CM places poll toll at four

Chandigarh, June 30
Four persons, two each of the Congress and the SAD, were killed in poll-related violence in Punjab where panchayat elections were held yesterday, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said today.

The four were killed in separate incidents in Tarn Taran, Batala, Muktsar and Jagraon, he said, adding 80 persons were injured in 12 clashes.

There were four cases of assault on public servants, one incident of acid throwing and four each of bogus voting and ballot snatching, the Chief Minister said.

He denied that there had been an escalation in violence during the polling and said the registration of corruption cases against former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had no effect on the voting. — PTI
