Lover commits suicide

An allegedly jilted lover committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Shimla Puri this morning.
Gurjant Singh (26), electrician, was allegedly in love with a nurse who turned down his proposal.

Local Cong leaders feel alienated
Ludhiana, June 21
For the Congress leaders in Ludhiana, the recent appointments of chairpersons and directors in various boards and corporations has come as a rude shock.
Of the over 100 appointments, Ludhiana has got only a few nominations, with Mr Pawan Dewan, Mr Gurdev Singh Lapran, Mr Amarjit Singh Tikka, Ms Bajinder Kaur, Ms Harbans Kaur and Mr Gurdeep Singh being nominated as directors or members of different boards and corporations.

SSP’s transfer ‘face-saving’ for Congress

No action yet in excise evasion case

Despite detection of evasion of excise duty by a local company during a raid by the local Central Excise Department three years ago, no action has been taken against the company till date and the department is being accused of deliberately delaying action.

RSS training camp in progress

This is a different sort of a summer camp where, the organisers claim, the nationalistic spirit is awakened among the volunteers and they are given thorough orientation on various issues concerning the nation, besides being trained in various physical activities. About 250 volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are undergoing training in this summer camp being organised on the premises of the Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Kitchloo Nagar. The summer camp started on June 10 and will continue till June 30.

The Focal Point police, on the statement of Sarda Devi, wife of a migrant living in Rajiv Gandhi Colony, registered a case of kidnapping under Sections 363 and 366 of the IPC, against Afroz Alam, a migrant from Bihar living in Dhandari Kalan.
