Chandigarh, June 20
Coaching has become an irreplaceable tool while preparing for the majority of competitive examinations, particularly in the medical and non-medical streams after plus two classes.

This was opined by the majority of students who have cleared the entrance examination of the Indian Institute of Technology- Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE), whose results have been declared, while talking to The Tribune here today. Students felt that classroom teaching had very little meaning if taken in isolation from the competitive examination because admissions to all professional colleges were based on entrance examination. Preparing for competitive examination needed planned input instead of a broad out look of the subjects.

Ankit Jain, a student of the local DAV College, has stood ninth and tops the list from the city. Talking to the Tribune from his residence at Ludhiana, Ankit, said teachers teach about everything in details and were least bothered to train students specifically for the competitive examination. The whole exercise of preparing for the entrance test was about recognising the ‘stuff’ that should go in as input to the students. Gaurav Mittal, another Senior Secondary School student, is ranked 41st and is likely to make it to any of the top engineering streams of computers, electrical, electronics or Metallurgy. Gaurav feels nothing can replace hard work, however, one needs to be focused while preparing for any exam.

Mohit Gupta is another DAV product who has made it to IIT. He has bagged the 43rd position making it to the cream of the merit holders. Mohit has also topped the entrance examination for the local Punjab Engineering College but he surely would go for a course at IIT. “Sincerity and seriousness are the ways to all success stories”, he said.

Gunjit Singh is ranked 48th also a student of DAV, Gunjit, feels that there was no other alternative available except for going in for coaching. A sizeable number of teachers were making fast buck on account of tuitions so, one should not expect any wonders in the classrooms.

Anurag Singla is ranked 297. Son of a doctor, he is also a pass-out from DAV. Young minds are very adjusting and have extreme potential to mould themselves according to the needs. Hardeep Singh Guru is ranked 328. He did his plus two from DPS, Delhi. Nitish Garg is ranked 493. Supreet Bahga, also from DAV, has secured 506 position. Supreet said he was clear about his future plans right from his school days. Gurvinder Sharma from Kendriya Vidyalaya is ranked 642.

Geetika Gupta is ranked 1504. She secured 90 per cent marks in plus two examination which she cleared from the local Sacred Heart School. She is ranked ninth in the CET of Panjab University and ranked 45th in the AIEEE. Saurabh Garg is ranked 1737.

NEW DELHI: A student of Delhi Public School(DPS) has topped the list of successful candidates in the IIT Entrance Examination, 2003. Shashank Shekhar Dwivedi who studied in Bhilai (MP) branch of DPS and two other students of the school were among the first 100 rank holders in the examination, a press note here said.

A brilliant scholar throughout his career, Shashank wishes to pursue studies in core physics at IIT, Kanpur.
