Burning train claims 38 lives
Laddowal (Ludhiana), May 15
Thirty-eight persons, including women and children, lost their lives when a fire engulfed three coaches of the Golden Temple Mail (Frontier Mail) en route to Amritsar from Mumbai. The fire broke out within 10 minutes of the train leaving Ludhiana station in the early hours today. Twelve critically injured passengers are struggling for life in Ludhiana hospitals.

Refusing to assign any specific reasons for today’s fire tragedy in the Frontier Mail (Golden Temple Express), the Railway Minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, said the investigations were on and nothing could be said at this stage.

The Indian Army slogan “I am an army man” could not be proved more right than it did on Thursday when three Army personnel travelling aboard the Golden Temple Mail put their lives at stake to save over 200 passengers entrapped in the three ill-fated compartments of the train.

After surviving the terrible fire that engulfed the Frontier Express in the early hours of today, newly-wedded couple Surjeet Singh and Manmeet Kaur along with their family members went to the Golden temple to thank The Almighty for their providential escape and sought blessings for their newly wedded life on the holy occasion of ‘Sangrand’.
