Satta expose: probe extended to senior cops Ludhiana, April 26 The department has already ordered a vigilance probe into the role of junior police personnel shown in the videofilm made by two alleged satta operators. The names of some former and serving IPS officers had also figured in the videofilm. The vigilance wing of the department will probe into their role in the scandal. An announcement to this effect was made by Mr A.S. Siddiqui (ADGP-Law and Order) to mediapersons at a Lok Adalat organised here today. The Division No. 6 police forwarded the case seeking the cancellation of gambling case registered against Subash Katty, one of the two alleged satta operators in the Lok Adalat today. The case could not be disposed of as the accused was not present at the time of the hearing. This development assumes significance since one of the cops shown taking a bribe in the videofilm had assured Katty that the case had been sent for cancellation. This is at variance with police claims that Katty and his accomplice, Bittu Chawla had made the videofilm to blackmail the police. Mr Siddiqui said if need be the investigations would be handed over to the State Vigilance Bureau after the vigilance wing completed the inquiry. Subash Katty and Bittu Chawla were seen in the new district court complex. For the first time after the videofilm scandal, they opened their offices in the late afternoon. They had converted a car into a make-shift house. The car with bedding and bags of clothes was seen parked outside the office. |
