PMT scamster taken to Delhi
Tribune News Service

Amritsar, April 24
The local police has taken Devinder Singh, alias Pappu, a Sirhind-based Akali leader, to New Delhi to nab the prime accused who allegedly used to leak the CBSE PMT papers to candidates.

The police has launched a manhunt to nab Sandhashu Kumar and Sharma from whom Pappu allegedly used to get the papers. In his confessional statement, Pappu said both the middlemen used to share the money collected from the candidates with senior officials of CBSE.

According to sources, raiding parties have also been dispatched to other parts of the country to unearth the nationwide scam. The police has reportedly raided the premises of the owners of various institutes in Punjab, New Delhi and other states, who have been striking ‘shady deals’ for ensuring seats in MBBS colleges by inserting advertisements in national dailies.

Meanwhile, expressing concern over the confessional statements made by the kingpin, parents of aspirant students said that neither the government nor the CBSE had initiated any action to dispel the fears of the lakhs of students taking the all-India PMT test scheduled to be held on April 27.

Interestingly, CBSE officials have claimed that the system of conducting the PMT is ‘foolproof’ even as doubts about their veracity remain.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today denied having any links with Devinder Singh, alias Pappu, who has been arrested by the Amritsar police in connection with the leakage of CBSE PMT papers.

Talking to TNS on the telephone, Mr Badal said that he had never met Pappu. He, however, claimed that Pappu had close links with SHSAD leaders, including Sirhind-based Randhir Singh Cheema.

Expressing concern over the figuring of his name, Mr Badal said the Congress government was maligning him.

However, Mr Badal did not comment when his attention was drawn to the pictures of Pappu with Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Union Minister and secretary-general of SAD, which were seized by the police from a hotel after the arrest of Pappu.
