Amarinder gets bail
Tribune News Service

Shimla, April 5
Mr A.S. Jaswal, Chief Judicial Magistrate, granted bail to the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, in a defamation case filed by Prof P.K. Dhumal, a former Chief Minister, here today.

Capt Amarinder Singh furnished a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and a matching surety. Mr Motilal Vohra and Mr Anand Sharma, two other Congress leaders against whom Prof Dhumal had also filed cases were granted exemption from personal appearance for the day by the court.

The judge tried to bring about reconciliation between the two leaders. He had a long discussion in his chamber with Mr Dhumal and Capt Amarinder which did not yield the desired result.

Later Capt Amarinder said he had no personal animosity with anyone. He raised certain issues during the election campaign on which the people had given their verdict. He would now like to the court to adjudicate the matter and give its verdict.

Prof Dhumal said he was not prepared for reconciliation at this stage.

The next hearing of case had been fixed for July 19.
