New Delhi, February 24
Top leaders of the VHP today accused the BJP of insulting sants by going back on its promise of supporting the Ayodhya movement and resolved that they would continue their struggle till the Ram Temple construction started in Ayodhya.

The VHP leaders, who led a protest march of hundreds of emotionally-charged sants towards Parliament on the concluding day of the three-day Dharam Sansad, said the party which had no respect for the sentiments of the majority community had no right to remain in power.

Addressing a gathering on the Sansad Marg, where the protesters were prevented by the police from marching towards the Parliament House, the VHP leaders said they would root out “secularism which was responsible for all problems that the society was facing today.”

Despite explosive speeches by VHP leaders, the protest march which began from the Ram Lila Grounds, passed off peacefully amid a tight security cover.

Though the VHP’s aim was to ‘gherao’ Parliament, VHP leaders had announced yesterday that they would strictly abide by the police instructions.

The peaceful demonstration was being seen as a conscious attempt by the VHP not to attract the ire of the Supreme Court ahead of the March 6 hearing on the Centre’s plea to vacate the stay on religious activities on the ‘undisputed’ site in Ayodhya.

Addressing the gathering, VHP’s firebrand leader Acharya Dharmendra said, “Those who have reached the seat of power on the promise of removing all hurdles in the temple construction cannot get away by bypassing the agenda. The road to Delhi goes through Ayodhya.”

His statement was greeted by the sants with slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Kasam Ram ki khate hain mandir wahin banayenge”.

In his sarcasm-filled speech, Acharya Dharmendra said, “After demolition of Babar’s structure, Hindus have now to destroy one structure that was secularism to end their woes.”

Acharya Dharmendra, who read out the “sankalp” (resolve) at the end of the protest warned that “Those working to divide the country will have their own bodies torn to pieces.”

Earlier, addressing the part-cipants VHP’s international working President Ashok Singhal said, “Hindus cannot expect anything from the government as ‘nastiks’ (atheists) are ruling the country and these ‘nastiks’ are none other than secularists who are dividing the Hindu society to reach Parliament.”

He called upon the Hindus to be ready for a ‘mahabharat’ with secularists.

From March 27 the VHP would take to streets and create an Ayodhya in every village of the country, VHP General Secretary Praveen Togadia said.

“If the Congress could amend the Constitution in 1967 to give minority status to the Aligarh Muslim University and reverse the Supreme Court judgement on the Shah Bano case why can’t it amend the law to hand over the Ramjanmabhoomi to Hindus,” he said.

However, all speakers, including the Ramjanmabhoomi Nyas president Ramachandra Dass Paramhans, refrained from giving any date for the beginning of the construction of the Ram Temple.

Religious leaders, along with Bajrang Dal activists marched towards Parliament carrying tridents, placards and shouting pro-temple slogans but were stopped by security personnel near Parliament Street Police Station.Back
