HC seeks panel’s report on unauthorised colonies

The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to place before it within a week the report of the committee appointed by the latter for identifying unauthorised colonies to be regularised in the Capital along with the government’s response to the recommendations made by the panel.

Child dies as HSIDC complex wall caves in
Sonepat, February 19
A child died and at least six others were injured when the boundary wall of the office complex of the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC) at Kundli collapsed on Tuesday evening.

Call girl racket busted, 8 held
Meerut, February 19
The local police today claimed to have unearthed a major call girl racket with the arrest of five women and three middlemen. The girls were being supplied to customers at various hotels of the city. They were booked under sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act. Later, the Inspector in charge of the women police station, Madhu Matti, produced the girls in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate who remanded them in police custody for five days.

DELHI IN PARLIAMENT
393 cases of rape in Capital last year till Nov
New Delhi, February 19
Crime against women is on the rise in the metropolitan cities including Delhi, according to the National Crimes Records Bureau, the Rajya Sabha was told today. As many as 386 cases of rape have been reported in Delhi last year till November and seven cases of rape with murder in the same period, Minister of State for Home Harin Pathak said in a written reply. Cases concerning the IPC continued to register a declining trend in Delhi during the year 2002 also, he said.

Govt gets HC notice on education for disabled kids
New Delhi, February 19
The Delhi High Court today issued notices to the Central and Delhi Governments on a PIL seeking a comprehensive education scheme that provides for transport facilities and books, among other things, to the children with disabilities.

Enough funds for you, CM assures panchayats
Sonepat, February 19
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, today urged the members of the Panchayati Raj institutes to work for the welfare of their areas. The state government, he said, has enough funds at its disposal for development projects and it will not shirk from giving assistance to the gram panchayats, block samitis and the zila parishads.

Nursing home fire: 41 granted bail

Bhiwani:
All the 41 suspected persons arrested in connection with setting a nursing home on fire at Badhra last month were released on bail by a local court yesterday. All of them belong to Sheoran Khap. The case will be heard on February 26. Sheoran Khap has convened a meeting to discuss the issue at Singhani village tomorrow.

Two jump in front of trains in Sonepat
Sonepat, February 19
Two persons committed suicide by jumping before the trains on Tuesday in different incidents. Their bodies have been kept in local civil hospital. The incidents took place at Jahri railway crossing and near Rathdhana Railway Station on Delhi-Ambala section.

Tempo breaks barrier, rams goods train engine
New Delhi, February 19
Two persons were killed this morning when a tempo collided with the engine of a goods train at an interlocked gate on the Delhi-Ambala section. The tempo was found crushed and entangled with the engine; both the tempo occupants, Sunil and Lala Ram, in their early twenties, died on the spot. A third occupant, Harish (17), has been admitted in the trauma centre and is under observation.

Ghaziabad, February 19
Manoj Kasna, cousin of Khokra MLA Madan Bhaiya, who had been missing since February 12 from Jawali village in Loni, is feared to have been killed. Manoj was the president of Daewoo Motors Workers Union.

f the 400 sanctioned posts in Jawaharlal Nehru University, close to 130 posts are lying vacant. “There are a number of posts that are lying vacant and despite constant reminders; the Ministry of Human Resource Development is yet to send a list of nominees to the President of India,” pointed out the president of JNU Teachers’ Association, Dr Ajai Patnaik.
