Gur makers from UP thrive in Punjab

As sugarcane is proving to be a lacklustre crop for want of proper minimum support price and due to the problems related with its milling, jaggery makers from Uttar Pardesh have taken over in the state to help solve some of the problems of the sugarcane farmers.

NDDB, Milkfed sign MoU with US concern

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Milkfed have joined hands with the Cooperative Resources International (CRI), USA, to streamline animal breeding services in Punjab.

Ladies don spring flowers
Ludhiana, February 7
The Aradhna Ladies Club organised a flower-jewellery competition for members at Friends Regency here today to mark the festival of Basant. Members of the club were dressed in their best yellow-coloured dresses with matching flower and other jewellery. More than 100 members of the club participated in the celebrations.

Bid to grab 18 shops
Khanna, February 7
Some residents of Payal have alleged that around 70 persons had tried to forcibly take the possession of their 18 shops at Payal on February 5. They have also alleged that the persons involved were having the patronage of a minister and the police was reluctant to take any action against them.

2 killed in road mishap
Ahmedgarh, February 7
Two persons were killed and one injured in separate accidents which took place yesterday. Paramjit Singh, a Patwari, son of Ujjagar Singh, died when the scooter he was driving collided with a car at the Chhapar Road. He was returning to Rachhin village.

Workshop on communication skills at GNIMT
Ludhiana, February 7
A three-day workshop on ‘Communication skills’ was inaugurated yesterday at Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Gujjarkhan Campus, Model Town, here. The key speaker on the occasion was Dr R.K. Dhar from Department of Journalism, Languages and Culture, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The workshop would conclude today. Students of MBAand BBA would benefit from this workshop.

A kite-making competition was held at Guru Nanak International Public School yesterday morning on the school campus. Four hundred students participated. The results of the competition are: Harman Kaur Ist, Sandeep Kaur IInd, Jasveen Kaur 3rd and consolation prize went to Harpreet Kaur.

Haryana eves register win
Ludhiana, February 7
Haryana eves routed the Rest of Punjab 5-1, while in the men’s section, Friends Club of Roomi drubbed Speed Fund Academy, Ludhiana 5-2 and Bibi Surjit Kaur Sports Club of Jarkhar recorded 1-0 victory on the first day of the 17th Mata Sahib Kaur Gold Cup Hockey and Bibi Surjit Kaur Memorial Silver Cup Kabaddi tournament at Jarkhar village, about 20 km from here, today.
