Ahmedabad, December 15 Rajkot police refused to divulge further information and said that case was being investigated. The statewide celebrations over the landslide victory of the BJP were marred by sporadic incidents of violence in Vadodara and Ahmedabad which left at least seven persons injured. One person was injured when the police opened fire in the sensitive Machhipeth area of Vadodara this afternoon after violence erupted during the victory procession of BJP candidate Yogesh Patel who was declared elected from the Raopura constituency defeating Congress rival Ramesh Patel. Four others were injured in stone-throwing and another in a stabbing incident. Trouble started when a group of people hurled acid bulbs and threw stones on the procession, prompting the police to lob teargas shells and fire 19 rounds. In the chaos, at least 25 houses and shops were looted and then set ablaze. An indefinite curfew has been imposed in the area, the police said. Tension also prevailed in the adjoining Panigate area as a religious place was stoned, the police added. In Ahmedabad, one person was injured and the police burst 39 teargas shells after two groups indulged in stone-throwing in the communally sensitive Kalupur area. The trouble sparked over bursting of crackers by the workers of victorious candidate. However, the police brought the situation under control.
