15 killed as bus overturns

Siliguri, December 13
Fifteen persons were killed and 42 injured, five of them seriously, when a bus carrying them overturned at Rangamat on national highway 31 in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district this morning, a senior police official said.

The mishap occurred at 4.14 a.m. when the overcrowded bus carrying 120 passengers from Kankarvita in Nepal and bound for Shillong, hit a roadside tree and overturned near a railway overbridge while negotiating a turn.

The passengers, mostly Nepalese nationals, including 15 women and eight children, were going for work at a coal mine in Meghalaya, the police added. PTI
