PM greets people on Gurpurb
New Delhi, November 18 In his message, Dr Kalam hoped that the teachings of Guru Nanak would inspire “all to follow his noble ideals of peace, harmony and brotherhood in our daily lives and work to strengthen the bonds of unity and mutual goodwill among our people”. The governors and chief ministers of various states, too, greeted the people on the eve of Guru Nanak Dev jayanti, hoping that the people would follow the path of truth, equality and compassion as shown by the Guru. Punjab Governor Lieut-Gen (retd) J.F.R. Jacob and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said the Guru was an apostle of peace who epitomised universal brotherhood and love of humanity. “This day gives us an opportunity to reaffirm our faith in his teachings and work for peace and communal harmony”, he said. Haryana Governor Babu Parmanand and Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala said the real tribute to Guru Nanak Dev would be to rise above narrow considerations of caste and creed and render selfless service to society. Mr Chautala said Guru Nanak Dev did not belong to the Sikh community alone, but to the entire humanity. His teachings were still relevant and should be followed in letter and spirit. Maharashtra Governor Mohammed Fazal said the day was a reminder of the great guru of universal brotherhood and harmony who stood for the oneness of mankind, care of the downtrodden and respect for all faiths. |
