Iraq resolution positive: Putin
Moscow, November 10
Terming the UN Security Council resolution on Iraq as “very positive”, Russian President Vladimir Putin today said it was the result of a compromise acceptable to Moscow. “Once again I want to reiterate that this is a result of a compromise, a compromise acceptable to us. It is the result of joint work by all permanent members of the UN Security Council,” Mr Putin said during a Kremlin meeting with key Cabinet members. PTI

US plot ‘thwarted’
Baghdad, November 10
The new UN Security Council resolution to disarm Iraq foiled Washington’s attempts to secure UN approval for automatic recourse to force against Baghdad, a government newspaper said today. AFP

Blast in Lebanon
Beirut, November 10
A bomb blast in a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon today damaged the entrance to an office of the pro-Syrian Saiqa faction, Palestinian sources said. The blast did not inflict casualties, but it was the first against a faction loyal to Syria, the main powerbroker in Lebanon. DPA
