CBI conducts countrywide raids

In a major countrywide swoop, the CBI raided several government and private establishments across the country and registered several cases of corruption, fraud, smuggling, forgery, cheating, abuse of official position among others.

The raid is being conducted simultaneously by the sleuths of various units of the CBI, including the anti-corruption branch, the Economic Offences Wing and the Special Crimes Cell, sources said adding that searches were conducted in over 32 places across the country. Searches at several places are still continuing and is likely to go on till tomorrow, sources said.

During the raid conducted in several places in Delhi, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Pune, Bangalore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jamshedpur and Surat, over 20 cases, including six cases of assets disproportionate to known sources of income, have been registered and that raids were still continuing at several places.

Cases of abuse of official position by public servants have been registered against officials of the Delhi Milk Scheme, Punjab and Sindh Bank, Land and Development Departments of Delhi Government, officials of Railways and Telecom, sources said. Even as senior officials at the CBI headquarters were awaiting details of the raids, sources said a CBI team have recovered four antique idols, valued at about Rs 4 crore in international market, from a house in South Delhi.
