Even as SAD (Badal) rank and file today condemned the arrest of former Minister Jagdish Singh Garcha by the Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar, yesterday, a number of Akali workers close to the Garcha family and workers of Mann Singh Garcha, who were employed for the alleged shady land deals, have gone underground.

The two-day Prof Mohan Singh Mela concluded here today with singers and artistes mesmerising the audience. Awards were conferred upon Gurpal Singh Pal, Jatinder Kaur, Niranjan Singh Bawa, Harbhajan Jabbal, Jaswant Sandila, Ravinder Grewal, Sahib Singh Thind, Rachhpal Singh Pamal and Om Parkash Gasso for their contribution to their respective fields like literature, comedy, drama etc.

Bajrang Dal launches campaign

The Bajrang Dal has launched a nationwide campaign against terrorism in the country. The convener of the Dal, Mr Prakash Chander Sharma, said the campaign was not aimed against any particular community, but only against the terrorism that is trying to raise its head in various parts of the country.

Ahmedgarh, October 20
A three-day mini Chhapar mela held at the Guga temple, near Chhapar village, where thousands of devotees paid obeisance to Guga, an embodiment of Nag Devta, concluded today.

80 kg poppy husk seized
Ludhiana, October 20
The Dakha police has seized 50 kg of poppy husk from Resham Singh of Umrewal village, police station Jalandhar from the area of the Jangpur Rurka road where the accused was sitting on a gunny bag with another bag.

Abducted girl rescued
Ludhiana, October 20
A 13-year-old girl, who was kidnapped by Chander Kumar, a migrant living in her neighbourhood in Dharam Pura Mohalla on October 16, has been rescued and the suspect arrested from his native village in Uttar Pradesh.

The Nishkam Sewa Ashram held a joint function to award certificates to students for completing a six-month computer courses and to those girls who had gained proficiency in stitching and embroidery after completion of the course at a function held at Nishkam Sewa Hospital in Ludhiana.

Shilpi Mittal and Gurpreet Singh, students of Punjab College of Technical Education, Ludhiana, bagged first and second positions in the university exams of MBA, 4th semester held in the month of May 2002. Sukriti Khanna, a BBA student, got the first position in BBA 4th semester university exams. In all MBA students of PCTE bagged 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th position in the university exams held in May 2002.

Forum tells PSEB to release connection
Ludhiana, October 20
Treating the delay in release of a power connection for a tubewell after payment of stipulated charges as a deficiency in service, the District Consumers Disputes Redressal Forum has not only directed the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) to release a pending connection within a period of two months but also awarded compensation of Rs 2000 and costs of Rs 500 while disposing a complaint filed by Mr Baboo Singh, a resident of Assi Kalan village in the district.

Jagtar Dhah’s book released 
Ludhiana, October 20
A function was organised last evening to release ‘Search for the Lost Home, an anthology of poems by Jagtar Dhah, a London-based Punjabi poet. His poems have been translated by Prof Bhupinder Parihar, professor of English in Government College for Boys. Prof M.S. Cheema, former professor of Punjabi language and a well-known columnist, presided over the function.
